Give your Pontiac G8 the modern instrumentation it deserves with the Haltech uC-10 Digital Dash.
Built around a huge 10-inch optically bonded full-color TFT display, the uC-10 provides a clean, modern replacement or supplemental display capable of putting an enormous amount of vehicle and engine information directly in front of the driver.
With a resolution of 1280 x 480, 600+ lumens of brightness, dual ambient light sensors, and a minimum 70-degree viewing angle vertically and horizontally, the display remains crisp and easy to read in a wide variety of lighting conditions.
But the real power of the uC-10 is what you can make it display.
Fully Customizable Display
Using Haltech’s NSP software, the uC-10 allows you to create and customize your own screen layouts, gauges, warnings, indicators, and displayed channels.
Instead of being locked into a predetermined gauge layout, you can configure the dash around the information that’s actually important to your G8 and your particular combination.
Depending on the available ECU data and installed sensors, this can include parameters such as:
- Engine RPM
- Vehicle speed
- Coolant temperature
- Intake air temperature
- Throttle position
- Manifold pressure
- Battery voltage
- Fuel pressure
- Oil pressure
- Air/fuel ratio
- Ethanol content
- Boost pressure
- And much more
Multiple layouts can be created to put the information you want front and center.
Using the uC-10 in a Pontiac G8
For a factory-ECU Pontiac G8, the uC-10 can communicate through OBD-II when used with the appropriate optional Haltech OBD-II-to-CAN cable. This allows the dash to receive and display supported PIDs that are available through the vehicle’s ECU.
However, it is important to understand that OBD-II does not provide every signal required to completely duplicate the factory G8 instrument cluster.
Several factory vehicle functions may need to be wired directly into the uC-10’s configurable inputs if you want them represented on the digital dash.
Examples can include:
- Left turn signal
- Right turn signal
- Hazard indicators
- Check Engine Light (CEL)
- Headlight status
- High beam indicator
- Flex-fuel / E85 content sensor
- Aftermarket pressure and temperature sensors
- Other switched or analog vehicle signals
The exact wiring required will depend on your vehicle, ECU configuration, installed sensors, and which functions you want displayed.
Fortunately, this is where the uC-10 really separates itself from a basic OBD-II display.
Extensive Inputs & Outputs
The uC-10 includes substantial onboard I/O capability, allowing it to function as much more than just a screen.
It provides:
- 10 Analog Voltage Inputs (AVI)
- 4 Synchronized Pulsed Inputs (SPI)
- 4 Digital Pulsed Outputs (DPO)
- Dedicated tachometer input
- Dedicated alternator excite
- 5V sensor supply
- 12V output
- Signal ground
This makes it possible to integrate additional sensors and vehicle functions directly into the dash, even when that information isn’t available through the factory OBD-II connection.
For modified G8s, this opens the door to monitoring dedicated fuel pressure, oil pressure, boost, ethanol content, temperature, and other performance sensors without relying solely on the factory ECU’s available data.
Built-In Data Logging
The uC-10 includes 512MB of onboard looped data logging, allowing important vehicle and engine channels to be recorded for later review.
For a performance-oriented G8, this provides significantly more capability than a conventional gauge cluster and can be especially valuable when diagnosing problems, reviewing vehicle behavior, or monitoring a modified combination.
Camera Support
The uC-10 also includes a composite video input supporting NTSC and PAL video sources.
Compatible camera images can be mirrored or rotated through 0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees, and the dash provides a dedicated 12V / 500mA output for camera power.
More Than an OBD-II Gauge
The Haltech uC-10 can be as simple or as advanced as you want it to be.
Connect it through OBD-II and use it as a large, customizable display for available factory ECU data, or take advantage of its extensive I/O capabilities and build a fully integrated digital dash with additional sensors, indicators, warnings, and vehicle functions.
For G8 owners looking to modernize the interior while gaining significantly more information about what’s happening under the hood, the Haltech uC-10 provides an incredibly powerful foundation that can grow alongside the build.
