The Aeromotive VaporWorx Returnless PWM Fuel Pump Control Kit (Part #66141) is an ideal solution for Pontiac G8 owners upgrading to a CTS-V2 fuel pump module and wanting to retain the advantages of a modern returnless fuel system.

The factory Pontiac G8 fuel system was not designed to control a high-output CTS-V2 pump module in the same manner as the later GM applications that utilize PWM fuel pump control. Rather than simply running the upgraded pump continuously at full output, the VaporWorx system provides intelligent Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control, varying pump output based on the fuel demands of the engine.

This provides several important benefits. During idle and normal cruising, the pump can operate at significantly reduced output, lowering electrical demand by as much as two-thirds compared with a traditional full-speed fuel system. Lower pump speeds also reduce unnecessary fuel heating while still allowing the pump to ramp up when additional fuel volume is required.

Constant or Boost-Referenced Fuel Pressure

The system can be configured for either constant fuel pressure or 1:1 manifold-referenced fuel pressure.

For naturally aspirated vehicles or G8s already properly calibrated around constant fuel pressure, the supplied MAP sensor does not need to be connected. Typical base pressure configurations fall between approximately 42-60 PSI, although the controller provides a considerably broader adjustment range.

For supercharged or turbocharged combinations requiring manifold-referenced pressure, simply connect the supplied stand-alone MAP sensor to the pressurized side of the intake manifold. The controller can then increase fuel pressure in relation to manifold pressure, providing operation similar to a traditional boost-referenced mechanical fuel pressure regulator.

Aeromotive recommends manifold-referenced operation for certain large-injector and high-horsepower combinations, where reducing fuel pressure during idle and cruise can further decrease electrical demand while providing additional injector calibration range.

Designed Around the CTS-V2 Fuel Module

This controller is specifically designed to operate GM CTS-V2 and compatible fuel pump modules, making it an excellent companion to a CTS-V2 pump conversion in the Pontiac G8.

It can be used with the factory CTS-V2 pump as well as compatible upgraded pumps from manufacturers such as DeatschWerks and AEM. When using a genuine GM M10235/M1MU1886 CTS-V2 module, the factory Pontiac G8 fuel level sensor can also be reused.

The controller provides a minimum 40-amp continuous power rating while remaining extremely compact at approximately 4.5″ x 3.5″ x 2″. Built-in over-temperature and short-circuit protection further protects the controller and fuel system from electrical faults.

For higher-demand combinations, the controller operates from 10-22 volts, allowing it to be paired with compatible voltage boosters such as the JMS FuelMax.

Clean, OEM-Style Fuel System Control

One of the biggest advantages of the VaporWorx system is that it provides the functionality needed to operate the CTS-V2 module without building a complicated relay or Hobbs-switch arrangement.

The controller integrates with the vehicle’s ECM so factory safety functions can remain operational. The system uses OEM-quality Delphi/Aptiv electrical connections where appropriate, cross-linked polyethylene wiring, and UL94-rated components throughout.

For G8 owners upgrading to a CTS-V2 fuel module—especially vehicles making significantly more power than the factory fuel system was designed to support—the Aeromotive VaporWorx PWM Kit provides a clean, sophisticated way to control the upgraded pump while maintaining the simplicity and advantages of a returnless fuel system.

The vehicle’s ECM fuel injector calibration must be configured appropriately for the selected fuel pressure strategy, similar to tuning a conventional return or deadhead fuel system.

When using the OEM internal safety valve in a CTS-V2 fuel module, fuel pressure should be limited to a maximum of 65 PSI. Above this pressure, the internal safety valve can begin opening and limit additional pressure increase.

Aeromotive also recommends not installing an additional inline fuel filter with OEM CTS-V2 fuel modules, as final filtration is already incorporated into the module. Certain aftermarket filters containing internal check valves can contribute to heat-soak-related fuel pressure problems.

For G8 applications, proper installation and ECM calibration are important. Professional installation and tuning are strongly recommended, particularly on supercharged, turbocharged, or other high-horsepower combinations.
