Simplify and upgrade your fuel system with the Aeromotive Returnless PWM Kit, designed specifically for use with popular GM fuel pump modules like the ZL1 Camaro, C7 Corvette, CTS-V, and more.

This system allows you to run a modern returnless, pulse-width modulated (PWM) fuel system, just like OEM high-performance vehicles—delivering consistent fuel pressure, improved efficiency, and reduced electrical load compared to traditional return-style setups.

At its core, this kit provides everything needed to control your fuel pump module electronically—no Hobbs switches, relays, or complicated wiring setups required. It integrates directly with your vehicle’s ECM, allowing factory safety systems to remain intact while delivering precise fuel control.

The system can be configured to run constant fuel pressure or manifold-referenced (1:1) fuel pressure using the included MAP sensor. For most setups, constant pressure is all that’s needed. However, for boosted applications, the MAP-based setup allows fuel pressure to rise with boost—just like a traditional regulator.

One of the biggest advantages of this system is efficiency. By controlling pump speed based on demand, it can reduce fuel system power consumption by up to 2/3 during idle and cruise, while also improving injector control and drivability—especially in high horsepower applications.

Built with durability in mind, the controller features over-temp protection, short circuit protection, and OEM-grade wiring and connectors, ensuring long-term reliability even in demanding environments.

If you’re running—or planning to run—a ZL1-style fuel module, this is the cleanest, most efficient way to control it. OEM-style operation, simplified installation, and serious performance capability—all in one system.

Return vs Returnless Fuel Systems – What’s the Difference?

Return Style Fuel System (Aftermarket)

A return-style system continuously circulates fuel from the tank to the engine and back using a mechanical regulator.

How it works:

  • Fuel pump runs at full speed at all times
  • Excess fuel is bypassed through a regulator and returned to the tank
  • Fuel pressure is controlled mechanically

Pros:

  • Simple and widely understood
  • Easy to tune for boost-referenced setups

Cons:

  • Generates more heat in the fuel
  • Higher electrical load (pump runs 100% duty cycle)
  • Can be less efficient, especially during idle and cruise
  • Requires more components (regulator, return lines, etc.)

Returnless (PWM-Controlled) Fuel System

A returnless system uses a controller to vary pump speed based on demand, maintaining fuel pressure electronically—just like modern OEM vehicles.

How it works:

  • Pump speed is adjusted using PWM (Pulse Width Modulation)
  • Fuel pressure is controlled electronically instead of mechanically
  • Can run constant pressure or boost-referenced (via MAP sensor)

Pros:

  • Reduced heat in the fuel system
  • Lower electrical demand (up to ~2/3 less at idle/cruise)
  • Fewer components—no external regulator or return line needed
  • OEM-style operation with smoother, more efficient performance

Cons:

  • Requires a controller (like this kit)
  • Slightly more complex initial setup compared to basic return systems

Why This Matters for Your Build

If you’re running a ZL1-style fuel module, it was designed to operate with PWM control—not a return system. Using a proper controller allows you to:

  • Get the full performance and efficiency out of the pump
  • Reduce unnecessary heat and electrical load
  • Maintain consistent, reliable fuel pressure under all conditions

You NEED this if:

  • You’re running (or planning to run) a ZL1, CTS-V, or C7 fuel pump module at max efficiency
  • You want a clean, OEM-style returnless fuel system
  • You’re tired of complex wiring with relays and Hobbs switches
  • You want to reduce heat and electrical load in your fuel system
  • You’re building a high horsepower street or boosted setup

⚠️ You may NOT need this if:

  • You’re running a traditional return-style system with a regulator
  • You prefer a fully mechanical fuel system setup
  • Your current setup already meets your performance goals

💡 Bottom Line

If you’re using a modern GM fuel pump module, this controller isn’t just an upgrade—it’s the correct way to run it. It simplifies your setup, improves efficiency, and delivers OEM-level performance in a higher-horsepower application.
